Connectors & valve compatibility
The connector decides what can be measured
Hydraulic valves do not share one electrical interface. Two valves can use the same physical connector and assign completely different signals to the same terminal. CANARY is built around that reality: connectors are specified per order from your valve’s data sheet, and what the monitor can detect follows directly from which signals that interface actually carries.
Same standard, different pinout
A Bosch Rexroth 4WRPEH and a Moog D633 both use a 6+PE circular connector. On the Rexroth, terminal C is the position-signal reference. On the Moog, terminal C is the enable line. The connector is interchangeable; the wiring is not.
Coverage tracks the interface
A valve whose connector carries no spool-position feedback cannot be monitored for hysteresis, response threshold or null behaviour — by any device. We state that per valve rather than implying uniform coverage.
Built to your data sheet
Send the valve data sheet with the order. The plant-side and valve-side connectors are built to that valve’s interface and pin assignment, and we confirm in writing what the monitor will and will not see on it.
Interface standards
Connector standards used on hydraulic valves
The interfaces CANARY is supplied against, and what each one makes available to a monitor.
| Standard | Description | CANARY coverage | Signals carried |
|---|---|---|---|
| DIN EN 175201-804 6+PE and 11+PE | Circular, screw-locking. The dominant interface for proportional and servo valves carrying on-board electronics. Formerly DIN 43563. | Full | Supply, enable, command, actual value, fault output and PE, depending on variant. |
| DIN 43563 6P+PE | The earlier designation still quoted in much Bosch Rexroth literature. Mechanically interchangeable with the 6+PE above, but the signal on each terminal differs by manufacturer. | Full | Supply, command pair, position reference and a test or monitor output. |
| MIL-C-5015 style 7-pin and 12-pin | Circular bayonet or threaded. Used by Atos and others for proportional valves with integral drivers; the 12-pin variant follows DIN 43651. | Full | Supply, enable, flow reference, flow monitor and fault output. |
| DIN EN 175301-803 Form A 2+PE or 3+PE | The square solenoid connector, 18 mm pin spacing, formerly DIN 43650 Form A. Fitted to on/off and simple proportional solenoids with no on-board electronics. | Partial | Coil supply only. No command or position feedback exists on this interface. |
| DIN EN 175301-803 Forms B and C 2+PE or 3+PE | The smaller micro (10–11 mm) and sub-micro (8–9.4 mm) solenoid connectors. | Partial | Coil supply only. |
| M12 A-coded 4-pin and 5-pin | Used for IO-Link Class B valve control, auxiliary transducers and fieldbus drops rather than for the main analogue interface. | Partial | Supply and digital communication; analogue command and feedback are not present on an IO-Link drop. |
Full means the interface carries a command and, in most cases, a position feedback signal, so the complete measurement set applies. Partial means the interface carries coil supply only — the monitor still measures supply voltage, current, vibration, acoustic emission and oil temperature, which covers coil degradation, cavitation, wiring and supply, but not the spool-behaviour modes.
Valve reference
Ten common proportional and servo valves
Compiled from the manufacturers’ own published documentation. Pin assignments vary by ordering code and revision even within a series, so treat this as a planning reference and confirm against the data sheet for your exact part number.
| Valve | Connector | Pin assignment | Command signal | CANARY coverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bosch Rexroth 4WRPEH 6 Proportional directional, direct operated | 6P+PE, DIN 43563 | A 24 V · B 0 V · C LVDT reference · D setpoint + · E setpoint reference · F test signal · PE | ±10 V (A1) or 4–20 mA (F1) | Full Command, position reference and the test/monitor output are all present, so hysteresis, threshold, null behaviour and tracking are all measurable. |
| Bosch Rexroth 4WRPEH 10 / 4WRPEH 16 Proportional directional, larger frame sizes | 6P+PE, DIN 43563 | Same family assignment as 4WRPEH 6 | ±10 V or 4–20 mA | Full As above. Larger frames draw more current — confirm the valve stays within the 5 A monitor limit. |
| Moog D633 Direct drive servo-proportional | 6+PE, EN 175201-804 | A 24 V · B GND · C enable · D command · E command reference · F actual value · PE | Current or voltage input; 4–20 mA or 2–10 V output | Full A dedicated enable line means enable-to-acknowledge timing and the electronics mode are both measurable. Zero-lapped spool, so internal leakage detection applies with transmitters fitted. |
| Moog D634 Direct drive servo-proportional, larger frame | 6+PE, EN 175201-804 | As D633 | Current or voltage input | Full As D633. |
| Moog D636 / D638 Direct drive with extended I/O | 11+PE, EN 175201-804 | 3 enable · 4 command · 5 command reference · 6 actual value · 8 valve-ready digital output · 9 24 V · 10 GND · 11 monitoring output · PE | Current or voltage input | Full Two digital status outputs in addition to the analogue set, giving the richest signal picture of any interface listed here. |
| Parker D1FP Direct operated servo-proportional | 6+PE (code 0/7) or 11+PE (code 5), EN 175201-804 | Command on terminals D and E (6+PE) or 4 and 5 (11+PE); enable present on code 7 | 0–±10 V, 0–±20 mA, 4–20 mA or 0–±50 mA | Full Command options span four of CANARY’s supported ranges including ±50 mA. Confirm terminal numbering against Parker’s operating instructions. |
| Parker D3FP / D*1FP Direct and pilot operated proportional | 6+PE or 11+PE, EN 175201-804 | As D1FP by ordering code | ±10 V, ±20 mA, 4–20 mA or ±50 mA | Full Same interface family. The IO-Link Class B variant uses M12 instead and carries no analogue command. |
| Atos DHZO-TES / DKZOR-TES Digital servo-proportional directional | 7-pin ZM-7P / ZH-7P, MIL-C-5015 style | A 24 V · B 0 V · C enable · D flow reference + · E reference − · F flow monitor · G fault output | ±10 V standard, 4–20 mA with /I | Full Carries a dedicated fault output, so the valve’s own health signal is monitored alongside the measured signature. A 12-pin DIN 43651 variant exists on the /Z option. |
| Vickers by Danfoss KADG5V-5 / -7 / -8 Proportional directional with integral amplifier | 7-pin plug (metal 934939 for EMC) | A +24 V · B power 0 V · C signal 0 V · D command + · E command − · F monitor output (0.5 V per amp) · G PE | ±10 V differential, 47 kΩ | Reduced No electrical feedback of main-stage spool position on this valve. Spool-position measurements are unavailable; the monitor works from supply, current, the solenoid-current monitor output, vibration and acoustic emission. |
| Vickers by Danfoss KDG5V-5 / -7 / -8 / -10 Proportional directional, no integral amplifier | ISO 4400 / DIN 43650 on the coils | Coil supply only | Driven from an external amplifier | Reduced The solenoid interface carries no command or feedback. Fit the monitor on the amplifier-to-valve run where the command exists, or accept supply, current, vibration and acoustic coverage only. |
Not listed here? This is a sample of the interfaces we see most often, not the limit of what the monitor supports. The measurement hardware is the same regardless of connector — only the mating interface and the signal configuration change. Send us the data sheet and we will confirm fit and coverage before you commit.
